How can I get prebiotics in my diet?

Prebiotics are substances in food that selectively feed good bacteria and not bad microbes in your intestine and bowel. They feed these bacteria that protect us against infection, allergy, inflammation, cancer and they also help make vitamins such as vitamin K. So where do we get them from supplements or food? Well food should be your predominant source for most people but there are specific ones and some people do not tolerate some. So read the following guidelines and get more in your diet!

New Food Pyramid Review

Australians, did you know we have a new guide to healthy eating from the government? As you can see, the new guidelines are a pie chart, that kind of looks like a plate. The Department of Health and Aging suggest we eat these relative proportions of food groups daily. The department is well intending though some of this research is a little out dated.

Male Fertility and Sperm Quality

What you need to know In 30% of infertile couples infertility is the result of the male factor alone, and in 20% it is a combination of male and female factors. In fact, approximately 40% of all couples undergoing IVF are doing so because of male fertility issues.

Yoga

Any time I scan the paid-presentation channels I always see the latest ‘fad’ exercise machines being sold, with bikini clad models or Hollywood tough guys like Chuck Norris sweating away as they use them. I often wonder how many good old 1990s ab crunchers are gathering dust in people's sheds, products of older ‘fads’ never to be heard of again. Yoga however, with its 5000 year history, is one exercise routine that will never lose popularity, and the reasons for this are now being more fully understood by research.

Feeling tired? You may have chronic fatigue.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is classified as fatigue that has been reoccurring for 6 months or greater that is not associated with a known disease process. It occurs with symptoms such as brain fog, impaired memory, joint pain, digestive problems, altered immune function, headaches, and swollen lymph nodes.
Energy. We rely on it to get through every day of our lives, yet how many of us stop and think about where it comes from, and more importantly, what stops us getting our maximum from the energy our body makes? It’s a complex subject, but I am going talk about one major influence on how well you feel and how much energy you have to enjoy your life – cellular toxicity.

Do you suffer with annoying bloating? Leaky Gut could be the cause.

Leaky Gut is a term coined by natural therapists decades ago but it actually refers to the condition of elevated gut permeability. Within our digestive tract are cells that line the small intestine, the area of our gut where we absorb nutrients from our food. These cells are joined together to form a barrier with “gates” in between each cell.

Sometimes even healthy food may not be healthy for you.

Are the foods you’re eating making you unwell? Even the healthy ones? You may have a food allergy or intolerance. Dealing with digestive complaints encompasses a multifactorial approach. But sometimes the cause is not always obvious and further investigation is needed to uncover where the deviation from health is occurring.

Pyroluria

Every person is a unique representation of the human species. Nowhere is this more evident than when we look at DNA.  A defect in this storybook of life can alter a lot of processes in our body; one good example of this is Pyroluria.
Australian research on fertility, carried out by Dr. Anne Clark, (2006) the Chair of the “Preservation of Fertility”,  gives us an insight into issues surrounding fertility today. The research covered 2,400 Australians age 18+ across all states, the results were as follows:
