Adult/Teen Autism & ADHD Assessment Information

Many adults/teens seek assessment after years of feeling that certain patterns in their thinking, behaviour, or energy don’t quite fit typical expectations. For some, these patterns relate to autism, ADHD, or a combination of both. A comprehensive assessment can provide clarity, validation, and practical direction.

Michelle Woolerson of Divergent Psychology (practising from NatMed) provides evidence-based adult/teen (aged 16+) Autism and ADHD assessments using a respectful, neuro-affirming approach. Assessments are adapted to your communication style and sensory needs, with a strong focus on understanding the whole person — not just symptoms.

Autism Assessment

An autism assessment may be helpful if you experience:

  • Social or communication differences, or long-term masking
  • Sensory sensitivities (noise, light, textures, crowds)
  • Strong preference for routine or difficulty with change
  • Deep focus on specific interests
  • Ongoing burnout, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion

Autism assessments explore lifelong experiences to determine whether autistic traits are contributing to current challenges. Where diagnostic criteria are met, a clear written report is provided with practical recommendations for work, study, and daily life.

ADHD Assessment

An ADHD assessment may be helpful if you experience:

  • Difficulty concentrating, organising, or completing tasks
  • Forgetfulness, impulsivity, or mental overload
  • Restlessness or excess energy
  • Ongoing challenges at work, study, or home

ADHD assessments carefully distinguish ADHD traits from other possible causes such as stress, mood conditions, learning differences, or medical factors. Where criteria are met, a diagnosis and tailored support strategies are provided.

The assessment process (Autism & ADHD)

Both assessments follow the same structured pathway:

Stage 1 – Pre-assessment call (15 mins) Phone consultation
A brief phone call to discuss your goals and suitability. If proceeding, payment is made in three installments, and online questionnaires are sent to complete at home.
Stage 2 – Interview appointment (1.52 hours) In-Clinic Visit
In-person structured interview exploring your life history and experiences.
Stage 3 – Diagnostic testing (2-3 hours) In-Clinic Visit
In-person assessment involving further autism-specific testing and observations.
Stage 4 – Report preparation (2–3 weeks) Report Writing – Michelle
Scoring, interpretation, and integration of all information into a comprehensive written report.
Stage 5 – Feedback appointment (1-1.5 hours) In-Clinic Visit
In-person session to explain results, answer questions, and discuss practical supports and next steps.

Fees (all inclusive, payable in three installments)

  • Autism assessment: $2,350
  • ADHD assessment: $1,450
  • Combined Autism + ADHD assessment: $2,750
  • Concession rates may apply for Autism assessments.

Funding & rebates

Medicare rebates are generally not available for diagnostic assessments. Limited rebates may apply for individuals aged 18–25 with appropriate specialist referrals. Private health rebates depend on your insurer and policy. NDIS self-managed participants pay upfront and may claim reimbursement. Reports may support applications to community programs, subject to individual criteria.

Michelle is not currently seeing patients for ongoing psychology therapy sessions and is exclusively offering Adult (16+) ADHD and Autism assessments only.
